A Summer Night at the Douglas County Fair & Rodeo
The 2026 Douglas County Fair & Rodeo brought ten days of summer fun to Castle Rock. Opening weekend featured live concerts by Trace Adkins and AWOLNATION, and PRCA ProRodeo performances ran through the final weekend, including themed nights — along with the carnival midway, livestock shows, and all the fair traditions Douglas County families look forward to every year.
Laura was at the fairgrounds on opening night, Friday, July 24, taking in the Trace Adkins concert — and even catching a moment backstage with the country legend himself — while connecting with neighbors, families, and fairgoers from across the county under the lights of the midway. The fair is this community at its best: hometown, hardworking, and proud of its Western roots.
Walking the Douglas County Fair Parade
Laura walked the annual Douglas County Fair Parade through the heart of downtown — up Wilcox and down Perry, past neighbors lining the streets. Organized by the Castle Rock Chamber and the Town of Castle Rock, this year's procession featured over 100 entries honoring western traditions alongside America's 250th and Colorado's 150th anniversaries.
The parade has kicked off fair season since the 1950s — it's the very tradition that led to the founding of the Castle Rock Chamber. Getting to wave at half the town in one morning? That's Laura's kind of campaign stop.
Unveiling Big Drive: A Tribute to Castle Rock's Western Heritage
Laura joined the Town of Castle Rock's dedication of Big Drive, the newest addition to the Town's public art collection, and helped unveil the interpretive sign at Rock Park Open Space — the starting point of the annual Western Heritage Cattle Drive that kicks off the Douglas County Fair & Rodeo each summer.
Created by artists Don Kennell and Lisa Adler of DKLA Design, Big Drive is a series of three monumental steel sculptures — a bull, a cow, and a calf — honoring the ranching history that shaped this community, arriving as Colorado marks 150 years of statehood and America celebrates its 250th. Art, history, and community, all in one place: that's Castle Rock.
Lost Canyon Ranch Open Space: A Grand Opening for Everyone
Laura joined fellow Councilmembers to dedicate Lost Canyon Ranch Open Space — 681 acres of grasslands, pine forest, hoodoos, and canyon cliffs, preserved forever and opened to the public with some ten miles of hiking trails. Her name is on the bronze plaque, unveiled in front of the historic ranch barn, as one of the Councilmembers under whose administration the open space was envisioned.
Laura cares deeply about improvements like this — investments in Castle Rock made for the public's enjoyment. Protecting open space, honoring the town's ranching roots, and making sure families can get out and enjoy the land we live on: that's the Castle Rock she's working for.
Breaking Ground on Fire Station 156
Laura grabbed a gold shovel alongside Town leaders and Castle Rock Fire & Rescue to break ground on the town's sixth fire station — Fire Station 156 and its logistics center on Castle Oaks Drive, serving Founders Village, Castle Oaks, Castlewood Ranch, and Liberty Village when it opens in September 2027.
Public safety is one of Laura's four core commitments, and this station is what that looks like in practice: police and fire funded, equipped, and staffed to match the town Castle Rock is becoming — built before the need arrives, not after.
Breaking Ground on the Castle Rock Sports Center
Laura joined Town leaders and project partners to break ground on the Castle Rock Sports Center — a 145,000-square-foot indoor recreation facility rising in the Brickyard development on the site of the former Acme Brick factory. Opening in summer 2027, it will bring two competition gymnasiums, a 25-yard by 25-meter pool with a warm-up pool, and indoor fitness space to the heart of town. Photo: Town of Castle Rock
